It’s about time. This was one of those weeks where every day felt like a Thursday. The actual worst.
// Raleigh Wood //
Let me kick off this post with a shout out to an incredibly well-named beverage. Raleigh Brewing Company is a local brewery off of Hillsborough Street. They are makers of many popular local brews like Moravian Rhapsody, Hell Yes Ma’am, and House of Clay Rye IPA.
On November 5, 2015, RBC has their first bottle release. They’re dubbing their bottles release “The Raleigh Wood Series.” Obviously the perfect name for anything good. This blog was most definitely (not at all) the inspiration for this beer. I’m sureee they’ll confirm this is the case.
Anywhoooo, this is the first in a new tradition of annual releases of barrel-aged beers. This is a tradition I can get behind. About a week ago, Zach and I scored a bottle of the limited release.
If you’re a beer drinker, I highly recommend this one. I’m a big fan of old ales and bourbon barrel aged beers, so this was a winner. They still have some bottles left so get over there and score one (or a few… I don’t know your life).
// Freakin’ Weekend //
Now back on track to the go-to events for the weekend. The lights are officially going up around Raleigh and Christmas events are running rampant.
// Saturday //
The big event this Saturday morning is the Raleigh Christmas Parade. Look, I, like most people, feel bad for Thanksgiving and really don’t enjoy celebrating Christmas before it. However, I also refuse to let my pride get in the way of a good parade. I’ve never been to this particular parade, but apparently it’s a big deal. Click here for a link to all the details.
Zach and I will head to Paddy O’Beers at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday to get prime seating. I’ll be the redhead making comments about how I could have done a better job waving than that little kid on the float. (Just a little miffed I’ve never been on a float you guys)
After the parade, you can head to your preferred venue for continued festivities. Briggs Hardware with have actual Santa Claus posted up to spread all the Christmas cheer (from noon to 2:00 p.m. – only so much Christmas cheer).
Actual Santa Claus will also be posted up in City Market for the Holiday Bazaar, which features local craftsman. The Market is running from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Should be a good place to purchase non-generic Christmas gifts and shop local! Check out the info here. (At this time I haven’t received word on how Santa will be at both places. Stay tuned.)
If you hate a gifts and Santa, don’t worry, there’s something for you too. The outdoor ice skating rink opens downtown after the parade!! The cost is $10.00 and includes skate rentals. More info here.
After the parade (from noon to 6:00 p.m.), House of Swank, awesome local clothing company, is throwing a Christmas Parade After Party and Bluegrass Jam. Expect the following: food trucks, beer, clothes, bluegrass.
// Sunday //
Sunday is Tir Na Nog‘s farewell party. The pub opens at 11:00 a.m. and invites you stay ’til close for the sendoff. Live music will run all day. Get out and be a part of the closing of this long-time Raleigh gem.
Should be another fab (no surprise there) weekend in downtown Raleigh. Zach and I will be at the parade and hopefully some of the after party festivities, but I have a work party Saturday night and Friendsgiving on Sunday. Hope to see some of you around this weekend. If not, Happy Thanksgiving. Let’s put on that winter weight together.
